Julie Fowlis

When you sing the theme for an Oscar-winning movie, it gives you a platform.  For Julie Fowlis, that means taking the Gaelic song of her native Outer Hebrides into the cultural mainstream.  Julie had already toured the world with Dòchas and had fronted her own band. Now having sung the theme for "Brave," the Disney Pixar animation set in ancient Scotland, her solo career continues to soar.  Host Fiona Ritchie met up with Julie to talk about her song tradition, Brave's Princess Merida, and the joy of recording a live album.  Hear their conversation and music from Julie's four albums.

Miles of Isles

From the Northern Isles of Shetland and Orkney, to the Hebrides, the Isle of Man and Rathlin Island off the northern Irish coast, this week's diverse choice of music is insular only in the geographical sense.
